Kelsey Reckling, the biologist who moonlights as a punk singer, has put out a stack of singles with her band since they released their self-titled debut in 2018. Today, the LA group have shared another new song, “No Way Out,” which is available on her own DIY label Wink and Spit Records.
The band originally debuted it when they opened for FIDLAR in February, but unlike their other songs, “No Way Out” doesn’t specifically tie in Reckling’s scientific background. Rather, the track plunges into a torrent of loud thoughts over bouncy, fuzzy propulsion and an authoritative delivery from Reckling, who’s done holding back. “It’s actually difficult for me to put on a persona, because then it doesn’t feel true to me,” she told us earlier this year. “When I’m performing, it’s a very real version of myself.”

Tomorow (Sept. 27), Reckling will play a free show at the AltPress x Marshall Fall 2024 showcase at Zebulon in Los Angeles alongside Slow Hollows, King Isis, and a DJ set from Sam Austins. You can RSVP here.
