Common Sage are a new-ish post-hardcore band from NYC, and they’ve clearly got an affinity for the genre’s early/mid-2000s era. Their recent Nostos | Algos EP featured collaborations with members of two bands from that era (Thursday and Further Seems Forever), and their new single “Vehicles” sounds like something you could picture tearing up a Fuse countdown back in 2005. It’s the first single from their just-announced album Closer To;, due Nov. 22 via Equal Vision (preorder). Like the EP, the album was produced by the Movielife/I Am The Avalanche member Brett Romnes, and it also features collaborations with Stay Inside (whose Chris Johns used to be in Common Sage) and Sainthood Reps.
Of “Vehicles,” vocalist Julian Rosen says, “The Heaven’s Gate cult would call their bodies a ‘vehicle’ or ‘container.’ They believed that their current life was only temporary and that they were ultimately meant to ascend to something greater. These were normal, educated people with families and jobs and lives. ‘Vehicles’ is about not being satisfied with your reality, that there may be no meaning to life, and that one day you will die.” Listen and watch the video (directed by Rich Weinberger of Gatherers) below.
