“I think a lot of what Militarie Gun does is offset these really sad elements by disguising them as fun, energetic pop songs,” frontman Ian Shelton said during their cover story interview with AP in 2024. That continues to hold true with their new song, “Throw Me Away,” which couches self-doubt in soaring riffs. It addresses “the feeling of only being valued when you’re visible or useful and the desperate need to hold onto that. What someone loves about you one day might be cited as a reason they hate you now. It’s the desire for external validation and also the deep resentment of it.”

“Throw Me Away” is the latest preview of their forthcoming second studio album, God Save the Gun, and comes with a performance video, filmed in Los Angeles. Like many of their videos, it’s directed by Shelton, whose constant plate-spinning includes helming visuals for bands beyond Militarie Gun, from L.S. Dunes to Drug Church to Drain.
Next week, Militarie Gun will perform a sold-out show at Alphaville in NYC, taking place days before their Riot Fest set in Chicago. After that, they’ll begin their headlining BAD IDEA tour across North America in support of God Save the Gun, running from September to November. They’ll be joined by a revolving cast of their peers on select dates, including Death Lens, MILLY, Angel Du$t, Fleshwater, Liquid Mike, and Public Opinion.
