Ever since entering their NEVER ENOUGH era, Turnstile have been everywhere, inspiring countless discussions about the state of hardcore. Before they hit the road on their massive North American tour, the Baltimore greats stopped by NPR’s Tiny Desk to reinterprete the widescreen songs that populate their setlists.
When Turnstile appeared on the series in 2022, it was for their (Home) Concerts during COVID-19 lockdowns, where they were surrounded by dozens of stuffed animals as part of an art installation by John Scharbach. This time, they’re playing at Tiny Desk’s Washington, D.C. office, and they ran through jazzy reimaginings of their NEVER ENOUGH tracks with an eight-piece lineup (rounded out by pianist Troy Long, saxophonist Tobias Moody, and trumpeter Theljon Allen). Even through horn-drenched arrangements and stunning piano ballads, it didn’t stop Brendan Yates from stage-diving, a historic first that expands on the raucous mosh that Soul Glo brought to the space last year.

“This being somewhat of a hometown show for us, there’s a lot of very important people in the room: a lot of personal heroes, a lot of people that we grew up with, people that are family, people that are friends, people that we found music with, people that we made music with,” Yates says. “All that to say, thank you for always being there, and I love you.”
