Home is Where have officially announced the follow-up to 2023’s great the whaler. Hunting Season is due out May 23 via Wax Bodega. They made it with producer Jack Shirley, and it features backing vocals from Shannon Taylor of awakebutstillinbed, pedal steel/dobro from Dan Potthast, and piano from Evan Bailey.
Singer Bea MacDonald and guitarist Tilley Komorny wrote most of the country-influenced album remotely after fleeing their homes in Florida “due to the state’s growing hostility towards trans people,” and they recorded it in three days. “It’s the hardest we’ve ever jammed on a record,” Komorny says.

“I was homesick, and Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers’ first record specifically sounded like home,” MacDonald adds. “When we traveled as a band, the music that opened us up the most was country music like Parsons or Hank Williams. Listening to The Gilded Palace of Sin during the winter of ‘21 opened a new tour tradition: When the weather is nice, the sun is shining, hopes are high, I put on that record, and without fail, every time something memorable happens.”
The first single is “Migration Patterns,” which brings harmonica and pedal steel into Home is Where’s unique sonic world.
Home is Where’s only upcoming show at the moment is day one of Ekko Astral and the Gender Liberation Movement’s Liberation Weekend in Washington, D.C.
