Suicidal Tendencies had already brought many to their hardcore cause by 1987, having infiltrated the mainstream with their self-titled debut’s iconically incensed and MTV-broaching “Institutionalized” video a few years earlier. Armed to the bone with their music and their tone, Suicidal’s Join the Army recruited even more fans. It’s a bandana-clad crossover classic that found the SoCal act getting decidedly more metallic in their approach — in part owing to the introduction of shred-headed guitarist Rocky George. Still, single “Possessed to Skate” is a punky anthem that inspired countless fat-board riders to wheel around their local pools.
