Before Mother Love Bone gave us a taste of debut album Apple, the Seattle quintet released their brilliant first EP, Shine. Comprising former and future members of Green River, Malfunkshun and Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone mixed early grunge heaviness with a dose of rock ‘n’ roll glam and funked-up swagger. Magnetic frontman Andrew Wood lets his bad boy spirit fly on “Mindshaker Meltdown,” while eight-minute ballad “Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns” stands one of grunge’s most vulnerably epic anthems.
