American Football quietly disbanded shortly after releasing their debut album in 1999, having only played a few local shows, but their record gradually became a cult classic and one of Polyvinyl’s best-selling releases. Over the years, the album resonated with generations of new listeners, becoming a timeless emblem of emotional transition. When the band reunited in 2014 after 15 years, they quickly sold out venues worldwide, showing just how deeply their music had taken root. Their follow-up album, also self-titled, revisits familiar themes with a more mature, introspective lens, exploring memory, change, and emotional growth. With no past legacy to exploit, American Football’s return feels fresh and sincere, shaped by years of lived experience and musical evolution.

American Football is Steve Holmes (guitar), Mike Kinsella (vocals, guitar), Nate Kinsella (bass), and Steve Lamos (drums, trumpet). American Football was recorded at ARC Studios in Omaha, NE, and SHIRK Studios in Chicago, IL, and was produced by Jason Cupp.
