The All-American Rejects are getting ready to perform a “grand slam hit fest” at When We Were Young next month. Before they do, though, the pop-punk vets shared a video for their cover of Harvey Danger’s late ’90s hit “Flagpole Sitta.”
The group took a lengthy break from the stage and returned last year for their first headlining tour in a decade, featuring peers who either influenced or came up alongside them. The cover idea emerged from a late-night hang on that run, and it’s fitting that the new video culls together glimpses of their recent live performances and BTS studio footage, which was shot by Andrew Knight.

“We’ve always felt that if an idea survives a hangover, then it’s probably a good one,” the band say. “‘Flagpole Sitta’ was such an idea, born of a late-night, post-show, adrenaline-fueled drive. We recorded it because we wanted to see how it would fall out of us on the floor — either like a hot bag of shit or a vibe. It was also a good excuse to see if the four of us could stand each other for a week in the studio after seven years of silence. Turns out it was all right.”
