NYC four-piece Shower Curtain are getting ready to share their debut album, words from a wishing well (out Oct. 18 via Angel Tapes/Fire Talk Records). As they near closer to its release next week, they’re back with the new song “you’re like me.”
Encompassing strains of slowcore and shoegaze, the track unfurls the crippling dread of seeing your worst attributes in someone else over five-and-a-half minutes. It also comes with a video directed by their Brooklyn peers Sex Week. Shot in the city, the visual looks like it was sprung from the ’90s as it shows the growing distance between two people who mirror each other’s emptiness.

“‘you’re like me’ is about realizing that often the people that hurt you the most are sometimes the ones with qualities that you see in yourself,” bandleader Victoria Winter says. “It speaks about two people hiding their feelings for each other and lacking emotional responsibility with the other, leading to an endless loop of subtle hurting. Production-wise, I wanted the guitars to have a ’90s feel. We were also testing the use of the drum machine in the song. I was inspired by the returned use of Y2K drum machine sounds in contemporary indie music.”
