In April, Santa Cruz hardcore band Scowl will release their Dead Oceans full-length debut, Are We All Angels, and they’ve just shared another preview with “B.A.B.E.”
Standing for “Burned At Both Ends,” the song melds throaty screams with a striking hook, further revealing their desire to stay connected with their DIY roots. “Hardcore and punk have sculpted how we operate, what we want to do as a band, and how we participate,” Malachi Greene says. “At our core, we are a punk and a hardcore band, regardless of how the song shifts and changes.” “B.A.B.E.” comes with a video filled with behind-the-scenes footage from the road — capturing the relentless grind of a band who played dozens of shows last year.

Of the new song, Scowl say, “‘Burned At Both Ends’ is another explosion of emotions stemming from both overwhelm and excitement. We felt that the song’s punchy nature and quick switches from melody to scrapping angst resemble a mature version of ‘Shot Down’ from our Psychic Dance Routine EP. Lyrically, ‘B.A.B.E.’ dives into our vitriol for the extreme circumstances we as a band subject ourselves to in order to live our dreams.
