Whether you were there for the mosh pit or the matrimony, Chicago’s Riot Fest showed us all a good time this past weekend. On its opening night, Fall Out Boy took us through their many eras, which included bringing out Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath for “Sugar, We’re Goin Down.” NOFX said farewell, pumping out three different performances that featured punk staples and Minor Threat covers. The Armed, Spiritual Cramp, Drug Church, and HEALTH provided a taste of where alternative music has been and where it’s headed. Then, on the festival’s final night, Slayer played in sweltering heat, coming out of retirement to run through classics and deep cuts (including “213,” which they hadn’t performed since 1998).
