quannnic has come a long way from playing DIY shows in Florida. Since releasing their debut album, Kenopsia, in 2022, the self-produced musician has collaborated with former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder, opened for Slowdive, and gone viral with “life imitates life.” All the while, they’ve continued to develop their scuzzy, blown-out collage of alt-rock, shoegaze, and emo — a sound as indebted to the ’90s as it is to YouTube rabbit holes.

They recently announced their new album, Warbrained, out Aug. 22 via deadAir, and shared the ripping lead single “Observer.” The song was written, produced, and mixed by quannnic and mastered by Chris Gehringer, who worked on 2023’s Stepdream. Its video, directed by Blindlight Co. x Midvessel, feels like a dark hallucination as quannnic tears through the song in a hospital. Meanwhile, a trio of ghoulish surgeons perform an operation in the background. Things get, well, bloody. See for yourself, as well as the LP artwork and tracklist, below.
