Around this time last year, Poppy said that we were “gonna have to wait and see” if there was a second part to her daring fifth album, Zig. Her forthcoming LP, Negative Spaces, isn’t exactly that, but it does broaden her partnership with producer Jordan Fish, out Nov. 15 via Sumerian Records.
“I’m just leading by interest,” Poppy told us. “If it’s interesting to me, that’s what I’m after. I’m not stopping to ask permission from those around me. The moment you stop to ask if it’s OK, that’s when you end up duping yourself.” It only makes sense, then, that a press release says the new record will continue to move in that direction, featuring the duo “mirror-balling through delicately delivered pop, full-bodied screams, synth-symbiotic ’80s retro-futurism, and energy-jolted ’00s pop punk.”

The announcement follows her recent singles “they’re all around us” and “New Way Out,” which will both appear on the album, in addition to a couple of scorching collaborations — first with Bad Omens’ “V.A.N.” and then on Knocked Loose’s “Suffocate.” Poppy will also appear at Mayhem Festival in San Bernadino, California next month.
