Growing up in Milwaukee, Petti Hendrix was entrenched in a home where sports and music reigned. His parents introduced him to all types of music — hip-hop, rock, pop, and blues, to name a few — until he eventually started reaching for his own influences, including Lil Wayne’s Carter III and Michael Jackson hits. Meanwhile, he and his siblings were immersed in sports, where they picked up teamwork, friendly competition, and working toward a goal.
It’s only natural that his forthcoming EP, Choose Life (out Sept. 26 via MDDN Records), doubles down on that ambitious, free-flowing mentality. Encompassing seven tracks, Hendrix shines bright, whether he’s delivering soaring pop-punk anthems (“Better Off Dead”), heart-on-sleeve rock (“Flowers In Paris”), or defiant angst (“Be OK”). Clearly, Hendrix has found his lane — and delivers a message with twice as much heart and vulnerability.

“The beauty of music is that so many people use it to connect to something, someone, or someplace,” Hendrix told us earlier this year, after releasing the “Be OK” remix. “So I try to keep more life experiences in my music because if I or someone I know has gone through these experiences, I’m sure the masses have some way to connect to the songs. This is a space where I can be super vulnerable.”
