GILT have announced their new album, I Saw Myself in the Black Screen, out June 26 via Smartpunk Records. Taking inspiration from Limp Bizkit and Thursday, I Saw Myself in the Black Screen blends elements of nü metal, metalcore, post-hardcore, and emo — something GILT describe as “nü emocore.”
“How Do You Kill an Angel, Barry?,” the second single following last month’s “Seattle Day 2,” is a shoegaze-inspired track that questions authority around free will and self-destruction. The beginning includes a clip from the anime Serial Experiments Lain, which explores similar themes.

“Taking its name from cult-classic film Dogma, where protagonist Bethany doesn’t realize she’s talking to the fallen angel she was sent to stop from destroying God, ‘Barry’ is a song of rebellion, about biting the hand that feeds,” vocalist/guitarist Tyler Fieldhouse says. “Is God jealous of free will, even if we exercise it to hurt or kill ourselves?”
