Since emerging with her debut single, “Ugly,” Deb Never has remained in flux. She’s released a trio of EPs — 2019’s House on Wheels, 2021’s Where Have All The Flowers Gone? and 2023’s Thank You For Attending — collaborated with BROCKHAMPTON, and featured in Calvin Klein campaigns. Along the way, her sound has shapeshifted through contrasting moods, embracing acoustic guitars, grunge-y textures, and 808s but never leaning too hard into a specific genre.

As Never gets ready to join Wallows on tour tonight, she’s returned with the new single, “This Alive,” via her new label Giant Music. Produced by Elliott Kozel (aka Gloomer), “This Alive” includes a beat-driven murkiness and a bright hook that circles back to her roots. The song follows “Not In Love” and, according to a press release, points toward what listeners can expect to hear on her forthcoming, and long-awaited, debut album, arriving later this year.
