Last year, Chanel Beads — the project of NYC-based musician Shane Lavers — released his transcendent debut album, Your Day Will Come, and took us behind the tour filled with bizarre omens. Today, he’s returned with the new song “The Coward Forgets His Nightmare,” which builds upon his layered, zonked-out haze, equally indebted to SoundCloud rap, electronic, and pop. It features violin from Zachary Paul and a duet with Maya McGrory, two of his live bandmates who contributed to YDWC.
Of the single, Lavers says, “I think I accidentally cursed myself at some point, and I don’t know if I should ignore it or confront it. Written and recorded quickly, vaping too much exploring bad health. Brought to life with Maya and Zach and stitched up with Mr. Carlson. Dedicated to the love we are given.”

They’ve been playing the track while on tour, including yesterday at a surprise show with Voyeur at NYC’s Intercom. Tonight, the band open for Lorde at Madison Square Garden, plus stops in Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., before joining Grizzly Bear’s back-to-back shows at Brooklyn Steel.
