It’s been a busy few years since Carlie Hanson released her love letter to the Midwest, Wisconsin. Soon, though, the alt singer-songwriter will return with her next EP, too late to cry, which arrives Feb. 7 via Fearless Records.
The EP will feature a handful of the singles she’s released over the past year, including “Covering Faces,” “baby,” her cover of Alice In Chains’ “Nutshell,” and the title track that came out last June. The latter, overseen by Hanson, Suzy Shinn, and viral producer Slush Puppy, captures the resilience and vulnerability she’s sung about since her early days. Hinged on the ability to move through pain after people let you down, the title holds enormous weight for Hanson.

“It’s funny because I didn’t see ‘too late to cry’ as a song that would even come out,” Hanson says. “I first recorded the verses in my bedroom studio in LA, and at the time, it was just something I had to get off my chest. I thought I’d keep it on my hard drive forever and move on. I wrote the verses in 10 minutes and had no idea that it would become the title of this next project.”
