Over the weekend, SZA shared her cover of “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls on Instagram. The distorted, lo-fi R&B rendition was paired with SZA hopping on the “What Were You Like in the ’90s” TikTok trend, which shows a recent video before flashing back to images from that decade set to the 1998 song. “Trend had me so cooked I couldn’t stop singing it, so I made my own deep-fried Goo Goo Doll tease,” SZA said.
The video featured a carefree SZA on a boat, followed by throwback photos of her in swimwear, a cowboy hat, and as a baby in the hospital, soundtracked by her own cover.
