Earlier this year, Spiritual Cramp completed a European tour with L.S. Dunes and Rise Against and supported Bad Nerves in the U.S., where they played new music. Now, the San Francisco punks have announced their second album, RUDE, which is out Oct. 24 via Blue Grape Music.
The LP was produced by John Congleton and mixed by Carlos de la Garza, who helped “trim the fat off” their 2023 self-titled debut. There’s also a duet with Sharon Van Etten on “You’ve Got My Number.” “When you focus on yourself and the people around you, you can keep your side of the street clean,” frontman Michael Bingham says. “And when I see the opposite of that, I get kind of offended, which is what a lot of these songs are about.” Although Bingham now lives in Los Angeles, Spiritual Cramp came up in SF and were born out of the Bay Area hardcore scene, making them peers with Militarie Gun, Drain, and Scowl. “My foundation is in San Francisco, California, and from there I can go anywhere and be who I am,” he adds.

The first track, “At My Funeral,” spotlights Bingham’s self-deprecating humor and a pounding rhythm section. It arrives with a Sean Stout-directed video indebted to the Pharcyde’s “Drop,” featuring Bingham swaggering through the streets of San Francisco with a boombox. See that below.
