Spiritbox’s 2021 debut album, Eternal Blue, shot them into a “surreal simulation” of heavy-metal stardom. Since then, it’s been a feverish few years, touring relentlessly, collaborating with Megan Thee Stallion, and receiving a Grammy nomination, as they readied their second record, Tsunami Sea, out today via Pale Chord/Rise.
Tsunami Sea was produced by Dan Braunstein and Mike Stringer, mixed by Zakk Cervini, and mastered by Ted Jensen. The release follows their 2023 The Fear of Fear EP, which gave them two Best Metal Performance Grammy nods for “Jaded” and “Cellar Door” in consecutive years. Prior to its release, Spiritbox unleashed a trio of alluring singles — “Soft Spine,” “Perfect Soul,” and “No Loss, No Love” — which only teased the depth and ambition that they brought to their sophomore LP. Like those songs, the rest of the album jumps between torrential heaviness and poppy harmonics, offering a flow equally thoughtful and satisfying.
