Inspired by ’80s Los Angeles’ hardcore/death-rock sound, Slaughterhouse hit us with a heavy new EP, Sick and Tired. With a five-song tracklist, they’ve packed a punch — the title track feels personal and introspective while leaving room for satiating screams, whereas “DNA” is all about thumbing noses at society. According to singer Meriel O’Connell, “It’s is more of a larger scale fuck you to living in this cis-, hetero-, Euro-centrist, ableist, capitalist hellscape… Isn’t that cool?!”

On each original song, they’ve somehow polished the classic punk-rock sounds and simultaneously brutalized them. Not to mention, the band —who call this project “the tip of the iceberg creatively” — added a brash cover of Black Flag’s “My War” that will make any alternative Angeleno proud.
