Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds recently started their Wild God tour, stopping by Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for a packed-out show last week. Before the band hit the stage, St. Vincent opened the night with a tight set consisting of her newer songs. The singer even revealed that she got her moniker from Cave’s 2004 song “There She Goes, My Beautiful World,” making her appearance on the tour an even more special, full-circle moment.

True to the tour name, Cave’s set included most of last year’s Wild God, backed by a four-piece choir and prestige live band. The current lineup includes drummer Toby Dammit, Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, percussionist Jim Sclavunos, and multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis, so it only makes sense that they ended their main set with a trio of songs (“Red Right Hand,” “The Mercy Seat,” and “White Elephant”) from Cave and Ellis’ 2021 LP Carnage. Afterward, the band returned to the stage for a four-song encore. They started with “Papa Won’t Leave You, Henry” and “The Weeping Song” before tailing off with “Skeleton Tree.” Then Cave punctuated the evening with an emotional solo piano playthrough of “Into My Arms” from The Boatman’s Call.
