Lip Critic have released “Talon” from their upcoming album, Theft World. The song reflects the unsettling experience of consuming both real-world violence and entertainment through the same digital spaces, leading to numbness.
“‘Talon’ is a song about scrolling through hell,” the band say. “Traversing an absurd and violent world at 1,000 mph in a go-kart your friend’s dad modded based off a YouTube video.”

Theft World was inspired by the events following vocalist Bret Kaser’s identity being stolen by a fan. The conceptual album is shaped around digital obsession and fractured identities in modern society. “Theft World is an ode to the power and pervasiveness of stealing,” the band say. “It’s about taking something ugly and using it to make something cute. It’s about eating an absurd world and falling in love with it as you digest.”
This week, Lip Critic are wrapping up their Theft Saga residency — a handful of shows at random places in New York, such as a basement bar and laundromat, which you can glimpse below. Tonight they’ll perform at a boxing ring. They were recently announced as support for a handful of dates with Mannequin Pussy in the summer following their headline tour across the U.S. and Canada later this spring.
