Although My Chemical Romance have been busy on their North American stadium tour, lead singer Gerard Way has somehow found the time to join a supergroup called the Mock-Ups. The project, which was announced a few days ago, features Way on vocals and bass alongside members of ska-punk band the Interrupters — Aimee Allen on backing vocals, Kevin Bivona on keys and production, Michael Schulz on guitar, and Jesse Bivona on drums. Today, they’ve shared “I Wanna Know Your Name,” an anthemic debut that features Way’s signature tenor.

According to Gauzy Records, ”I Wanna Know Your Name” is engineered by the Grammy-winning Doug McKean, a longtime collaborator and friend of My Chemical Romance who passed away in 2022. McKean — who also collaborated with Sum 41, Simple Plan, and Green Day — worked on Way’s solo debut, Hesitant Alien, in addition to My Chemical Romance’s Welcome to the Black Parade and Danger Days. At their July 26 show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, My Chemical Romance performed their unreleased track “War Beneath The Rain” and dedicated it to McKean. Given the timing, this indicates that the Mock-Ups have been quietly working on music together for some time.
As fans wait for news on what’s next from the Mock-Ups, Way will continue to play shows with My Chemical Romance next year on the Long Live The Black Parade tour, which includes stops in South America, Asia, and the U.K.
