When Dummy released 2024’s Free Energy, they said the songs were made to “get your body moving.” The result was rhythmically dense and unabashedly hooky, equally indebted to Seefeel as My Bloody Valentine. Afterward, they played roughly 113 shows, which informed their next album, do you love the color of the sky?, out Oct. 16 via their new label home Polyvinyl.
Its lead single, “Full Spectrum Dominance,” continues to celebrate movement, growing into a lysergic, head-nodding dance track that reflects their wide-ranging tastes. “I was trying to make something just heavier, and we joked it was our nü-metal song,” guitarist Joe Trainor says. “During the recording, we added the tambourine that gives it a more dancey vibe, Deee-Lite meets Deftones.”

Vocalist/synth player Emma Maatman adds, “This is the Technofeudalism bop. Tech billionaires are treating AI like the new alchemy, using it as a source of power and magic. This supposedly soon-to-be all-powerful technology could not exist without harvesting all of humanity’s intellectual property and collective work. ‘Prima Materia’ is the building block of all alchemical matter, so in the canon of the song, we humans are the Prima Materia.”
Earlier this summer, Dummy put out a filmed recording of the Free Energy cut “Unshaped Road,” performed in the round at LA’s Lodge Room in December 2025.
