Back in 2023, Chino Moreno released Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete. with Far guitarist Shaun Lopez under their gothic side project ††† (Crosses). After teasing the announcement at a London show in June, he’s officially back in Deftones mode for their latest full-length, private music, which is out Aug. 22 via Reprise/Warner Records.
Deftones recorded and co-produced private music in different locations, including Malibu, Joshua Tree, and Nashville, with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who also helmed 2010’s Diamond Eyes and 2012’s Koi No Yokan. Their guitarist Stephen Carpenter has said that the new material “sounds like a continuation of Ohms and Koi [No Yokan],” which you can determine for yourself with their latest single, “my mind is a mountain.”

Earlier this year, Deftones went on their first North American headline tour since 2022, tapping the Mars Volta and Fleshwater as support. Next, they’ll kick off another North American run on release day in Vancouver. Those shows will feature Barbarians of California, Phantogram, and IDLES on select dates.
