Anxious have released their new single “Don’t Move,” the first new music since last year’s Bambi.
The single was the first of a batch of songs written at the end of last summer. They had no intention or pressure of making a new record, but had an open, instinctive approach to see what would come together naturally.

“This song is about a relationship that defined my early 20s falling apart — then trying and failing to rebuild it,” vocalist Grady Allen says. “It’s about disengaging with reality in hopes of reclaiming the bond you’ve lost with someone, but never feeling truly close in the process. ‘Don’t Move’ is about knowing that feeling, but trying to ignore it in the hope that things will change.
“The bridge for this song came first, and I was trying to channel some of the atmospheric building action that happens a lot on the B-side of Jimmy Eat World’s Clarity. I was also super inspired by Armlock, probably my favorite new band of the last several years. Their layered acoustic guitars and vocals were something I was trying to pull off on the bridge.”
They’ll begin their North American tour supporting Citizen with Hotline TNT, Rocket, and Cryogeyser next week.
